Offered is a dramatic sterling silver serving fork by Durgin for Shreve & Co of San Francisco, circa 1900–1905, marked SHREVE&CO andSTERLING. Shreve & Co is California’s most storied silver house — foundedin 1852 during the Gold Rush, its Post Street flagship was one of the fewstructures on the block to survive the 1906 earthquake and fire. Shreve silverof this era is heavily collected on the West Coast, and Art Nouveau servingpieces are far scarcer than the firm’s later hammered patterns.
This Iris pattern is pure Art Nouveau: four long, curved,splayed tines rise into a knot of interlaced whiplash strapwork, with a floralrepoussé terminal. It’s a sculptural serving piece for cold meats, sardines, orlettuce that reads as miniature Tiffany-school metalwork on the table. A scriptmonogram from the original owner is engraved near the terminal.

Condition: Very good antique condition. All fourtines straight, no bends or repairs, crisp strapwork detail. Light surfacescratches and scattered tarnish consistent with age. Old script monogram asnoted. Please review all photos.
