A true baseball lifer as a coach & player, he won 6 World Series titles, 2 as a player with the Brooklyn/ LA Dodgers, and 4 as bench coach for the New York Yankees (1996,1998,1999 &2000). The story behind this iconic photo of “Zim” is after he took a line drive foul ball from Chuck Knoblauch to his face in the 1999 ALDS series against Texas, he wore it as a tongue in cheek joke to the Yankees brass who wanted to ensure he was “protected” going forward and gave him this military style hard hat with “ZIM” written on the side and the famous NY logo on the front.
