For sale is a DayStar Digital PowerCache P31 68030 accelerator for compatible vintage Apple Macintosh systems.
This example is the 40MHz version and is fitted with both a Motorola 68030 processor and Motorola 68882 floating-point coprocessor, together with 32KB of onboard high-speed cache memory.
The PowerCache was designed to substantially improve the performance of 68030-based Macintosh systems by replacing the host processor with a much faster 68030 and using onboard high-speed cache memory to reduce accesses to slower system RAM.
The card installs directly into the processor-direct/cache slot of the Macintosh IIci. DayStar also supported the PowerCache in a number of other Macintosh models through the appropriate model-specific DayStar adapter.
The accelerator has been fully tested in an Apple Macintosh IIci and is working correctly. The IIci booted and operated normally with the PowerCache installed.
The PCB, processor, FPU, components and connector are in very good condition overall, with only minor normal age-related cosmetic wear.
This is vintage accelerator hardware. Compatibility with Macintosh models other than the IIci may require the correct DayStar adapter and appropriate system software. Please verify compatibility with your particular Macintosh configuration before purchasing.
