Kickpanels with speakers were developed by Custom Autosound in the 1980s to enhance the sound quality of your radio by adding custom speaker assemblies to classic cars and trucks. These new kicks sound great, enhance interior appearance, and afford a "no-modification" fit. Most models feature 6 1/2" coaxial (2-way) speakers with 100-watt power handling capacity (Some GM Models have 4" or 4"x6" 80-watt speakers). Also available with Pioneer speakers. Summary: I installed these on my 72' Chevelle convertible that had trashed out factory kick panels. They look nice, although the plastic they are made of is really too hard and shiny compared to the factory parts. The passenger side fit very well, the driver's side is a tough fit, but so is the original. Despite warnings, it cleared my parking brake pedal. My complaint is that they don't actually fit into the vent opening of the car body, which COULD allow moisture to enter the car , and if you car has the vents in the dash, there is no longer any provision to open or close them. The lower vent setup looks nice, but I seriously doubt much air flows through them. If you want something that looks decent on a restomod for less than the correct piece, or you REALLY need the speaker locations, I would say they are fine. If you are interested in actually USING the vents, I would pass. Like most things, just a little more effort could have turned an OK product into a great one.
