A beautifully constructed vintage Chinese two-tier stacking wedding, ceremonial food basket, dating approximately to the early-to-mid 20th century.
This miniature basket is handcrafted from tightly woven split bamboo set within a reddish lacquered wood and bamboo framework. Dark, decoratively engraved metal mounts protect the corners and accent the substantial curved carrying handle.
The basket consists of two stacking compartments and a fitted woven lid. Its original removable metal locking pin passes through the side fastening assembly, securing the stacked sections and lid beneath the handle. The survival of this easily misplaced pin is an especially desirable feature.
Traditionally styled tiered carriers of this type were used to transport food, sweets, gifts, offerings, and personal items. They are now commonly collected and described as Chinese wedding, betrothal, ceremonial, picnic, or food baskets.
The small size makes this an especially appealing decorative and collectible example—large enough to display its intricate construction but compact enough for a cabinet, shelf, tabletop, or Asian decorative collection.

It displays expected age-related surface wear, minor scratches, finish variation, darkening, and patination to the metal fittings.
