Charles Koechlin's "Ballade," Op. 50, for solo piano, in the 1994 edition from Gérard Billaudot Éditeur, Paris, with annotations and manuscript preparation by Jean-Pierre Ferey. This is a substantial, multi-movement work (the score's own duration note lists 24 minutes, 30 seconds), composed in seven connected sections after imagery evoking old legends and forest scenes. Koechlin (1867-1950) was a significant French composer, theorist, and teacher of the early 20th century, associated with Fauré and Ravel's circle, and his solo piano output is considered relatively scarce and specialized compared to his chamber and orchestral works. This edition is a French import; Roselle Music special-ordered sheet music directly from Europe from time to time for exactly this kind of specialist classical repertoire, which is consistent with what's pictured here, though the seller can't confirm the specific ordering history of this individual copy.
