Canon AF35M Autoboy Sure Shot point & shoot 35mm Film Camera
At the time of its release, it was the world's first lens-shutter 35mm autofocus camera to use a triangulation method with near-infrared light-emitting diodes. It was an active method that used a near-infrared light-emitting diode (IRED) for projecting light and a pin photodiode for receiving light. When the shutter button is half-pressed, near-infrared light is emitted from the IRED while scanning the subject. The near-infrared light that hits the subject and bounces off is received by the pin photodiode. This creates a triangulation method based on the same principle as a double-image coincidence optical rangefinder, and the lens is automatically extended to a position that corresponds to the distance to the subject, and the focus is adjusted. It was a huge hit due to its ability to focus even in dark shooting conditions thanks to the characteristics of near-infrared light. The nickname "Autoboy" became synonymous with AF compact cameras.
