Aliceara Tahoma Glacier \'Sweet Sugar\' (formerly known widely as Beallara Tahoma Glacier \'Sweet Sugar\' or abbreviated as Bllra.) is a famous, highly awarded intergeneric orchid hybrid. It is a complex cross combining the genetics of Brassia, Miltonia, Oncidium, and Odontoglossum (Bratonia Cartagena x Oncidium Alaskan Sunset).Key Characteristics
  • Flowers: Features large, striking, star-shaped blossoms reaching over 3 inches in size. The petals are typically an elegant white with dramatic deep red, purple, or brown spotting and a yellowish hue near the center.
  • Growth Habit: It produces large, prominent pseudobulbs with long, strap-shaped green leaves. Spikes can grow quite tall—often 24+ inches—carrying an average of 5 to many flowers per stem.
  • Fragrance: Unlike sugary-sweet smelling orchids, it is renowned for a unique, spicy, peppery fragrance.
Essential Care GuideBecause of its diverse hybrid lineage, this orchid is remarkably hardy, vigorous, and beginner-friendly.
  • Light: Prefers medium, diffused light. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sunlight, which can burn the leaves. If the leaves begin to turn a deep purple hue, it is a sign the plant is receiving a bit too much light.
  • Watering: Water regularly as the potting medium approaches dryness. The fine root system should never stay soggy, but the plant does not like to dry out completely. Wrinkled pseudobulbs indicate underwatering.
  • Temperature: Thrives in cool-to-intermediate conditions (ideal ranges are roughly 50°F–60°F at night and up to 75°F–80°F during the day), though it is highly adaptable.
  • Humidity & Air: Prefers moderate-to-high humidity (around 50-60%) with gentle air movement to keep the foliage clean and prevent spotting.
  • Potting: Best grown in a well-draining orchid bark mix or sphagnum blend. It has an unruly growth habit and will naturally send roots over the top edge of the pot.
