Beautiful Ihagee EXAKTA VX IIa With Meyer Domiplan 50mm F/2.8 Lens, Film Tested For Sale

I enjoy finding and restoring broken historically significant or classic cameras to working condition, and then finding them new homes. This classic Exakta Varex IIA circa 1959 represents the pinnacle of mechanical SLR design and function, and the embossed version here is considered by many to be the most beautiful camera ever made! This example was obtained amongst a large lot of random SLR bodies purchased “as is”. It was pretty dysfunctional to begin with, but responded very well to some judicious cleaning and lubrication, along with sealing of some pinholes in the shutter curtains. Now it appears to be working pretty well again. The fast speeds are functioning fine as far as I can tell, though not tested electronically for accuracy . The slow speeds are not restored, and actually had to be disabled to get the fast ones working again. Not a bad trade, since I have never used the slow speeds anyway when they do work. Overall cosmetic appearance is excellent, with just a few minor areas of brassing, scratches or chrome loss. The leather is in great condition (see photos). The removable pentaprism view finder and plain ground glass focusing screen are clean and clear of anything except minor dust, and the mirror is in good shape. The body comes with a Meyer Domiplan 50mm f2.8 normal lens, also optically clear and fully functional. This combination was film tested with great results, but this is after all a nearly seventy year old piece of mechanical art, which should be handled gently, and is therefore offered “as is”.
