Original April 15, 1896 issue of The Chap-Book, the influential American literary magazine published by Stone & Kimball of Chicago.
This semi-monthly publication represents the flourishing “little magazine” movement of the 1890s and contains poetry, essays, fiction, illustrations, and period advertisements. Featured contributors in this issue include John Fox Jr., Bliss Carman, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, and Richard Burton. Also included is a portrait of novelist Harold Frederic.
Of particular interest is the appearance of Richard Burton’s poem “Mad-Town,” making this issue desirable to collectors of late nineteenth-century American literature and literary periodicals.
Original paper wrappers. Approximately 6” x 4”. Printed on inexpensive period stock with rough-cut edges as issued.
Condition: Good antique condition. Small water stain visible on front cover and extending lightly into some margins. General age toning, edge wear, creasing, and handling wear consistent with age. Binding remains intact and contents are complete and readable. Please review photographs carefully for condition details.
