Antique c1840 Leonard Reed & Barton Britannia Hot Water Pot Pewter Wood Handle For Sale

AntiqueLeonard, Reed & Barton Britannia metal tea/coffee pot, dating to approximately the1840sand manufactured in Taunton, Massachusetts.

The underside is clearly marked“LEONARD REED & BARTON”along with the pattern/style numbering and a“5” capacity mark as well as 28000.Period documentation for Leonard, Reed & Barton shows that the number 5 was used on this size of hollowware. Pieces bearing the Leonard, Reed & Barton name date to the early history of the company before it became known simply as Reed & Barton.

This handsome early American piece features a bulbous Britannia-metal body, raised faceted pedestal base, tall curved spout, hinged domed lid with finial, and original-style wooden handle with metal fittings.

Approximate Measurements:

• 11" from tip of spout to outside of handle
• 7.25" tall to top of body
• Approximately 9.5" tall to top of lid/finial
• Bottom marked “5” and "2800"

Condition:
Antique, as-found condition with substantial wear consistent with its age. The metal has extensive natural patina, oxidation, scratches, discoloration and surface wear. The wooden handle shows significant finish loss and age-related wear. There is visible wear/deterioration and evidence of an old repair around the upper handle attachment. Additional wear is present around the lid and rim.
