This is an instrument case associated with W.F. Stanley of London, the well-known British maker and retailer of mathematical, drawing, surveying, and scientific instruments. This is not a later American Stanley Rule & Level woodworking item.
This is an unusual W. F. Stanley instrument case with the 13 Railway Approach address. W.F. Stanley items are collectible and well documented, but this exact small instrument case with this white plaque appears hard to find.
No drawing instruments, surveying tools, railway curves, scales, protractors, compasses, or other instruments are included.
Estimated date: late Victorian / Edwardian, approximately 1888–1917. The 13 Railway Approach, London Bridge S.E. address is documented in period W.F. Stanley material, and the plain “S.E.” postal style is consistent with use before London postal districts were subdivided with numbered districts in 1917.
