Antique violin bearing an interior “Petrus Guarnerius Cremonensis … Mantuae sub tit. Sanctae Teresiae 1695” label, the traditional label associated with Pietro Guarneri of Mantua.
This violin is NOT being represented as an authentic 1695 Pietro Guarneri instrument. It is being offered as an antique German/Bohemian-school Guarneri-model copy bearing the period-style Petrus Guarnerius label. I have not had the instrument formally authenticated or dated.
This violin belonged to my uncle in Shreveport, Louisiana. According to family history, his parents purchased the violin in New Orleans during the Depression and paid approximately $200 for it, which would have been a substantial purchase at the time. I have a period photograph showing Charles with his violin class in Shreveport, as well as old recital programs documenting his violin studies and performances. Uncle Charles is standing next to the teacher in the back row holding the violin. One program identifies Charles Clark performing Schubert’s “Hark! Hark! The Lark.” Images of these family materials are included with the listing to document the violin’s history.
The violin has remained in the family for many decades.

The violin has a warm reddish-brown/amber varnish with extensive natural age and playing wear. Please examine all photographs closely for the construction, finish, edges, ribs, scroll, pegbox and overall condition.
Condition: This instrument requires professional attention before use. There are visible open/separated seams or areas along the edges/ribs, finish wear, scratches, abrasions and other signs of considerable age and use. The strings and fittings are as shown. I have not had the violin examined by a luthier and cannot determine what additional repairs or adjustments may be necessary. It has not been tested for current playability.
