If you like antique tinsel prints, you will love this antique print. This charming theatrical print was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1835. The original hand coloured print is titled ‘Mr Ducrow as St George, Published by A. Park, 47 Leonard Street London.’
The print depicts Andrew Ducrow as St. George in the play ‘St. George And The Dragon’ by Charles Isaac Mungo Dibdin (b 1768 – d 1833) who was an English dramatist, composer, writer and theatre proprietor.
Andrew Ducrow (b 1793 – b 1842) was a British equestrian circus performer credited with being the originator of horsemanship acts.
A. Park were publisher of satirical and theatrical prints. Archibald and Arthur Park were brothers trading at the same address, 47 Leonard Street, London, England.
The engraving is housed behind glass in a contemporary birds eye maple frame, ready for display!
Measuring: Frame width 10 ½ inch (26.5 cm) by height 12 ¼ inch (31 cm). Aperture width 6 ½ inch (16.5 cm) by height 8 ¼ inch (21 cm).
Condition: Light age toning to the ancient paper. Two small ½ vertical tears to paper at 6 o’clock. Print trimmed to fit frame.
