Indian Decorative Silver-Plated Pen / Scroll Case with Hindu Iconography
A beautiful and substantial decorative case of Indian origin, featuring intricate hand-applied brass repoussé ornaments on a silver-plated brass body. A striking collector's piece or display item.
Description:
This elongated rectangular case is covered in an all-over fish-scale (imbricated) repousse pattern on a silver-plated brass body. The front face features three applied gilt brass medallions depicting iconic Hindu imagery:
• A crescent moon with fine filigree scrollwork
• Surya (the Sun God) — a smiling solar face with radiating rays
• Nataraja (Dancing Shiva) — the Lord of the Cosmic Dance, shown within a flaming aureole (prabhamandala) atop a lotus pedestal
The bottom border features a continuous Greek key (meander) fret pattern. The hinged lid is attached by a decorative curb-link security chain. The interior shows natural patina consistent with age and use.
