a striking pair of 19th-century continental Renaissance Revival candlesticks, cast in a copper-based alloy with a heavy silvered finish. Richly decorated with classical masks, scrolling foliate ornament, and floral rosettes, with separately turned sockets and drip pans. Probably dating from around1850 to 1900. The design strongly reflects Renaissance and Mannerist metalwork. weighing about 531 grams each. Condition-wise, good antique condition with considerable age-related tarnish, rubbing, pitting, and wear to the silvered surface, and areas of base metal showing. No obvious modern fixings noted. Please study photos carefully. They’re a genuine and characterful pair of antique revival metalware, far stronger than just silver-plated.
