Up for sale is a stunning, rare 2-piece matching antique Japanese garniture set produced by the Moriyama Pottery factory in Mori-Machi, Japan, dating to the late 1920s/1930s.Excellent antique condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. The original lid is fully intact. Minor, expected age-related wear to the gold gilding and raised moriage lines (please see all photos.
The set is decorated in the traditional Satsuma style, featuring intricate, hand-painted panels of Geisha/Immortal figures, detailed scrollwork, and heavy gold gilt over a rich dark chocolate-brown ground. The detailing utilizes the iconic \"Moriage\" technique, giving the outlines a beautiful raised, three-dimensional texture.
Included Pieces:
- 1. Lidded Censer / Incense Burner Urn (Koro) on a square footed pedestal. Measures 7 1/2\" tall from base to top of lid finial, 8\" long from end of each handle, and just under 4\" at the widest part.
- 2. Matching Pedestal Vase with trophy handles. Measures 7 1/2\" tall , 3 /14\" at the longest part from the end of each handle, and 2 7/8\" at the widest part.
Both pieces feature the official red laurel wreath \"M\" maker\'s stamp on the base, guaranteeing authenticity.
