Spectacular carved and painted wooden Mexican dance mask, depicting a pink-faced figure wearing a high red and black feather.
Its highly theatrical expression is accentuated by large yellow eyes, a prominent nose, an open mouth, and black painted features. The carved feather, attached to the top of the head, extends the silhouette and gives it a striking presence.
The reverse, deeply hollowed out by hand, retains many traces of sculpture and use. An antique rope runs through the inside to hold or hang the mask. This design indicates that it was likely made to be worn to traditional dances or festivities.\"
