James Laird & Co ( now J.K. Rishel Furniture Company - Pennsylvania)Origins: In the 1850s, James Laird started a small furniture/lumber operation in Hughesville, Pennsylvania.
Laird partnered with John K. Rishel, who eventually took over and named the company J.K. Rishel Furniture Co. The factory was later moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where it became the largest desk and cabinet manufacturer in the area.
In 1869, Dr. J.K. Rishel, who was James Laird\'s son-in-law, took over the Hughesville, PA planing mill/furniture factory and formed a partnership with his brother-in-law, John Laird.
