Outstanding antique J.B. Owens Pottery Company art pottery jardinière, made in Zanesville, Ohio, circa 1900. This heavily molded example features an unusual continuous relief design of stylized birds or roosters surrounded by sweeping organic foliage. The rich blended glaze progresses from deep forest and olive green around the lower body through soft mint and creamy ivory, finishing in beautiful rose-pink and burgundy shading around the sculptural upper border. The interior is finished in a warm cream glaze. The deeply modeled decoration, irregular organic rim and dramatic blended coloration give the piece wonderful Art Nouveau character. The underside bears an impressed J.B. Owens factory mark along with an impressed numeral and original firing/stilt marks. A substantial and highly decorative example of early Ohio art pottery. Measures approximately 8\" across.
