Stunning Collector’s H.J. WILM Hanau .800 Solid Silver Brandy Bowl
For your consideration is an exceptional example of German Historicist silver from the renowned workshop/retailer H.J. Wilm of Berlin (Jeweler to the Prussian Royal Court).
This large Brandewijnkom (Brandy Bowl) is a masterful revival of 17th-century Dutch silver, featuring the incredible detail and "pseudo-hallmarks" characteristic of the Hanau silversmithing tradition.
Artistry & Design
• Elaborate Repoussé & Chasing: The body is decorated with high-relief scenes of birds among foliage, floral garlands, and central cherub/mask faces.
• Cast Openwork Handles: Two stunning horizontal handles featuring scrolling acanthus leaves and classic "Green Man" or Baroque-style masks.
• Pedestal Foot: The bowl sits on an oval lobed foot with a beaded rim and matching chased floral accents.
Hallmarks
The underside is clearly stamped with the following marks:
1. HI in an oval: The documented master mark for the prestigious firm H.J. Wilm.
2. The Key: Hanau pseudo-mark (mimicking Bremen/Leiden).
3. Lion Passant: Hanau pseudo-mark (mimicking Dutch/English standards).
4. Letter "S": Pseudo-date letter.
5. Crowned Symbol: German pseudo-city mark.
Condition
