Antique H.E. Rainaud slag glass table lamp, circa 1920s.
Beautiful early American table lamp featuring an approximately17-inch, eight-panel cream/caramel slag glass shadewith an ornate dark metal scenic/floral overlay. When illuminated, the glass produces a rich warm amber/golden glow that beautifully silhouettes the decorative metalwork.
The underside of the base is clearly cast/marked“RAINAUD.”There also appears to be an additional cast number, possibly2 or 3, although an old repair in this area makes the number difficult to read.
The complete lamp measures approximately20 inches tall, with the shade measuring approximately17 inches across at its widest point.
The lamp is in attractive antique condition for its age. I do not see cracks in any of the eight slag-glass panels. The glass has natural variations of cream, ivory, caramel and amber that become especially apparent when the lamp is illuminated.
The lamp has not been cleaned, polished or restored.It has only been lightly dusted/blown off, and one exterior glass panel was gently wiped with a damp paper towel. The original aged surface and patina have otherwise been left as found. The glass panels have not been removed from the shade, and I have intentionally avoided disturbing the original retaining tabs or attempting a detailed cleaning.
Condition disclosure:There is an old glued/epoxied repair on the underside/base area, which is shown in the photographs. The metal has normal age-related wear and patina consistent with an antique lamp. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
The lamp has beentested and is working, as shown in the illuminated photographs. The electrical cord/wiring is older. Because of the lamp’s age, the electrical components should be inspected by a qualified person before regular use.
