Up for sale is a very nice antique wedge-arm plow plane by H.A. Hobday Tool Merchant of Chatham, England. H.A Hobday was a tool and cutlery merchant active in England from the 1880s through the early 1900s, who sourced their tools from a variety of English toolmakers of the period. This plane was most likely manufactured by John Moseley & Son for Hobday. It features thick brass capped arms with diamond shaped escutcheons and an ornately designed fence. Includes one 5/8\" plow cutter by A. Hildick of Sheffield.
Great condition. Clean. Free of rust. Bold and even trademark stamp. One owner stamp on the nose. Depth stop works well. One of the two arms is a bit sticky, but both move with some light tapping with a mallet. The wedges are original. The two leg wedges have some chips on the tips but work fine. The original finish is intact. The fence has a minor crack, visible in photo #15. A fine English-made plane from an uncommon firm. Weighs 3lb, 1oz.
