An impish antique German googly doll by Gebruder Heubach (Lichte, Germany), circa 1912-1920.
DESCRIPTION
- Solid-domed bisque head with molded, tufted hair
- Painted intaglio side-glancing "googly" eyes
- Button nose and closed, mischievous smile
- Height approx. 7.5 in / 19 cm
- Original five-piece papier-mache torso with composition arms and legs
- Molded and painted black boots
- Wears original striped cotton romper, matching cap, pink silk ribbon and antique lace
MARKS
- Incised on the back of the neck with the square Heubach mark and size 5/0
- Mold number worn and difficult to read
CONDITION - PLEASE READ
- Bisque head: intact, good colour, crisp modelling
- Body: papier-mache torso has old repair/restoration. Offered as a restored / as-is collector's piece
- Limbs: composition arms and legs with age wear and some restoration overpaint
- Costume: original , with toning and tattered lace
