Striking antique/vintage handmade folk-art crucifix featuring a hand-carved wooden figure of Jesus mounted to a simple wooden cross.
The figure has wonderful primitive craftsmanship, with an elongated carved face, individually shaped fingers and toes, angular arms and legs, and remnants of an aged dark surface with traces of old coloration. Behind Christ’s head is an especially interesting thin worked-metal halo, hand cut into radiating sections and decorated with punched/embossed details.
The figure retains an old red fabric loincloth with delicate lace overlay, now heavily aged and frayed. The hands and feet are secured with old wire, adding to the wonderfully rustic, handmade construction and untouched folk-art appearance.
Measures approximately 12" tall × 10" wide.
Exact age and origin are unknown. The combination of hand-carved wood, worked sheet metal, textile and simple wire construction suggests a handmade devotional/folk-art piece rather than a conventional mass-produced crucifix.
Condition: Displays significant age-related wear and patina throughout, including surface loss, discoloration, small cracks, old fastening/repair work, oxidation to metal components, and deterioration/fraying of the original or early textile. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition and construction. No restoration has been attempted.
