Original early Eastman Kodak thermometer made for photographic processing and darkroom use. The original cardboard box is marked: EASTMAN THERMOMETER (FAHRENHEIT) FOR GENERAL PHOTOGRAPHIC USE EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY, ROCHESTER, N.Y. Trade Mark Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. MADE IN U.S.A. The thermometer itself is marked: E.K. CO. MADE IN U.S.A. This curved-back, hanging-hook design was specifically intended for photographic processing. Period Eastman Kodak material describes the Eastman Thermometer as having a curved/concave back for use inside a developing tank and a hook for hanging. The design appears in Kodak advertising from at least 1920 and remained cataloged by Eastman in the 1930s. The glass assembly remains intact, including the enlarged lower reservoir bulb and the heat-formed/sealed upper end, which passes through the metal backing. Detailed photographs show the construction. Fahrenheit scale is approximately 20°F to 120°F. Numbers and fine graduation marks remain exceptionally clear and readable.FUNCTION TESTED The thermometer was allowed to acclimate while hanging directly beside a modern digital household thermostat. The thermostat displayed 74°F, and the Eastman thermometer settled at approximately the same ambient temperature. The actual comparison is shown in the photographs. This confirms that the liquid column responds appropriately to ambient temperature. Because this is an antique measuring instrument, it has not been professionally calibrated and no laboratory-level accuracy is guaranteed.CONDITION The thermometer itself presents very well for its age. Glass tube and lower reservoir bulb are intact with no visible cracks or breaks. Scale markings remain sharp and legible. Metal body shows only light normal age-related wear. The original Eastman Kodak cardboard box is included. The box shows considerably more age than the thermometer, including discoloration/staining, edge wear, tears/splits and old tape/repairs.
