Antique Hand-Crafted Dovetailed Copper Kettle — Early 19th Century
Offered is a wonderful early hand-crafted copper tea/water kettle believed to date to approximately 1800–1840 based on its construction and period features.
This is not a modern decorative reproduction. The kettle displays traditional early copper-working techniques, including a visible dovetailed/cramped copper seam, applied copper spout, hand-peened rivets, substantial iron swing handle, turned black wooden grip, and distinctive trefoil/clover-shaped brass handle mounting plates.
The interior retains what appears to be remnants of its old tin lining, another feature associated with functional period copper vessels.
Of particular interest is a very faint marking on the copper. Under close examination, part of the mark appears to resemble “26” together with additional worn or ornamental markings. The complete mark has not been positively identified, so I am making no attribution to a specific coppersmith. It may represent a maker/workshop, size, inventory or other period marking.
Based upon comparison with documented examples, the kettle appears most consistent with an early 19th-century example, probably American and possibly Mid-Atlantic/Northeastern, although the exact country of origin and maker have not been confirmed.

The kettle has intentionally NOT been polished or restored. Its historic patina and surface have been preserved.
