Antique 2-piece set from Derby Silver Co. The base bowl features a beautiful hand hammered texture and is clearly stamped on the bottom with the maker's mark and pattern # 1257. The matching ornate pierced filigree lid fits perfectly, and has matching patina, and is un-stamped as was customary for lids in this era. NOTE: The flat interior insert is not included. The insert had holes and would be used as a "strainer' of sorts for vegetables, rolls or entrees.Based on the maker's stamp, it is determined this was made between 1872-1898. Has LOTS of natural patina and I have chosen not to touch it in any way, as some collectors like it. Please inspect all pics. This piece is in very good shape for its years on earth. No dings or gouges and beautifully ornate handles.
Here are a few ways this could also be used as home decor:1. Floral centerpiece2. A potpourri holder- allows lovely scents to flow freely due to the decorative cutouts3.
