Antique Count Thun / Thun-Klösterle Vienna Austria Porcelain Decanter or Ewer For Sale

An unusual and beautifully decorated antique Bohemian porcelain decanter or covered ewer attributed to the Count Thun porcelain factory at Klösterle (Klášterec), Bohemia.The rounded porcelain body is decorated with an elaborate metallic copper-bronze/gold luster design featuring stylized birds surrounded by scrolling foliage, berries, flowers and sweeping botanical motifs. Coordinating metallic decoration continues onto the handle, spout and fitted porcelain stopper, creating a particularly striking late-19th-century decorative effect.The underside bears several important marks, including a faint impressed “TK,” an impressed cross, the numbers “42” over “16,” an additional impressed numeral, and a worn green crowned double-shield “VIENNA AUSTRIA” backstamp.The impressed TK and cross are associated with the Gräflich Thun’sche Porzellanfabrik at Klösterle, commonly known as the Count Thun factory. Comparable Count Thun porcelain has been documented with the impressed TK mark together with green Vienna Austria export/import marks. The impressed 42/16 markings appear to be factory production or turner-related markings rather than a date.The green Vienna Austria mark is the distinctive crowned double-shield type associated with porcelain exported to the American market through New York importers, including P. H. Leonard and later firms.The precise name or decorating studio responsible for this unusual bird-and-foliage design has not yet been identified.
