Antique Charles Magnus & Co. Pictorial Lettersheet – Louisville, Kentucky
Original 19th-century pictorial lettersheet featuring a detailed bird’s-eye panoramic view of Louisville, Kentucky, published by Charles Magnus & Co., 12 Frankfort Street, New York, circa 1858–1860.
The view depicts early Louisville along the Ohio River, with the city’s street grid, buildings, waterfront, boats and surrounding landscape. The print is titled “LOUISVILLE, K.Y.” and features beautiful period hand coloring.
Charles Magnus was a prominent 19th-century New York publisher particularly known for pictorial lettersheets and views of American cities. These illustrated lettersheets were early predecessors of the picture postcard and are collected today for their historical and visual significance.
