All original, clear glass PURE CASTOR OIL medicine bottle with the original paper label and cork closure intact. 100% full of oil. Paper label features period typography. Cork closure is typical of late 19th century and early 20th-century medicinal packaging. I have not removed the cork, nor do I feel comfortable doing so. I have had the bottle for over two decades and have never opened it. I don’t want to take a chance of damaging the cork. Such pharma bottles are ULTRA-RARE and highly desirable. This is perfect for anyone who loves old antique medicine bottles or oddities. A rare addition for collectors of historical pharmacy artifacts.

Vertically embossed lettering on the side of the bottle reads “CHAMBERLAIN’S”. The bottom of the bottle is embossed with “MADE IN USA”.

CONDITION: This antique pharmacy bottle shows it’s age and exhibits imperfections, as it should. The wear and tear is considered part of its authenticity. This bottle has roughly 95% of the original paper label on it (my best guess looking at the front face and corresponding right side of the bottle). Unfortunately, the original paper label has missing parts and pieces. Then, too, there are areas where the label has separated from the glass, peeled away, or is in the process of peeling or separating. There is staining and discoloration. The paper label is extremely brittle. The fragility of the piece means that damage continues to occur. What you see in the pictures reflects that moment in time. However, packaging the bottle and transporting it could lead to further disintegration. Please be aware that the bottle that arrives to you may have less of the paper label intact than captured in the pictures. The bottle is a live relic, continually maturing, and while I go to great lengths to protect it while in storage, protect it for safe transport, and hope that it arrives to you in the exact same shape that it leaves me, guaranteeing such a sensitive paper label is impossible.

Otherwise, apart from the paper label, the bottle is sold, as shown. You may notice residue or discoloration, depending on the lighting and your perspective. The bottle is gorgeous for it\'s age and displays great with no cracks or breaks. The cork looks original and seals the bottle perfectly. Along with the full bottle of liquid, it is possible that this bottle of caster oil has never been opened or used! This is great for use as a display or as a collectors piece. These are becoming harder and harder to find these days, so make sure to get yours now while you still have the chance. This bottle and it’s contents are for archival or display use only, not for food, beverage, or cosmetic purposes. Handle according to archival standards.

A HISTORY LESSON: Chamberlain’s PURE CASTOR OIL was manufactured by Chamberlain’s Medicine Co. in Des Moine, Iowa. The company produced medicinal products from 1873 until circa 1925 when they closed their doors. Chamberlain’s is infamous for being one of the many quack medicine companies that distributed thousands of patent medicines labeled with incredible, and often false, claims about their effectiveness. It was one of the many quack medicine companies at the center of controversy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One particular Chamberlain medicinal product was the culprit (thankfully, not the pure castor oil for sale here. This was a product called \"Chamberlain\'s Colic, Cholera, and Diarrhea Remedy”, advertised as a remedy for children). The story goes that in December of 1905, a young couple administered this particular medicine to their infant. The child died. Other sources indicate that it might have contained chloroform as well. Patent medicines such as Chamberlain\'s were the catalyst for various food and drug regulations requiring manufacturers to list ingredients. Eventually, government regulations were put in place to prevent medicine manufacturers from making unfounded claims about their Notes from Seller:
