Offered here is a quality antique C.E. Jennings & Co. drawknife with an 8-inch cutting edge and fixed hardwood handles. C.E. Jennings was a respected American maker of woodworking tools, including drawknives, chisels, saws, braces, and auger bits. The company operated from the late 19th into the early 20th century and maintained its principal office in New York City. This is a substantial, well-made drawknife featuring sharply offset forged tangs that position the handles comfortably behind the cutting edge. The steel body appears straight and symmetrical, with strong shoulders and a pleasing traditional form. The JENNINGS maker’s marking remains visible on the steel, together with a stamped “8” indicating the blade size. The blade was personally examined before being covered and is in very good-plus to excellent condition. It is also quite sharp. A protective covering was placed over the cutting edge for the safety of the blade and anyone handling the tool. Because the covering is particularly tedious to remove, it will remain in place and the drawknife will be shipped exactly as pictured. The new owner may remove it at their discretion. The uncovered portions of the blade and bevel are bright and clean, while the remainder of the steel displays an attractive, age-appropriate patina. No serious corrosion or damage is visible on the exposed metal. Both turned hardwood handles appear original and remain exceptionally solid and comfortable. They are free of cracks, checks, splits, or repairs and retain considerable original dark finish, together with normal surface wear and a handsome working patina. One handle has a small, shallow recess or localized area of surface wood loss near its end cap. There is no separation in the wood. The recess is entirely cosmetic, cannot be felt during a normal working grip, and has no effect whatsoever on the handle’s strength, comfort, or usability. Both metal ferrules and end caps remain present.Overall, this is a very good example of a desirable American-made Jennings drawknife. It is complete, sharp, structurally sound, and suitable for continued woodworking use or inclusion in an antique edge-tool collection. Please examine all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the description. As an added bonus, the old unmarked compass/divider shown in the photographs will be included with the drawknife at no additional charge. It is being offered simply as a complimentary extra and has not been factored into the asking price.FINAL NOTE ABOUT DRAW KNIFE: Because of the coverings on the blade, this listing is offered totally risk free: If you purchase the draw knife and are not 100% pleased with the blade’s condition, we can negotiate a refund in one of two ways; (1) I can refund you in FULL; or (2) we can negotiate an appropriate refund amount, so that you can still keep and use the draw knife. Nonetheless, I remain confident that you will find the blade most satisfactory for its age. Happy shopping, and thanks for Due to chronic illness, I am unfortunately being “forced” to sell my entire large collection of antique hand tools. Most items will be priced to sell rather quickly (hopefully!). I will be regularly posting new tools on a frequent basis (everything from hand planes—metal and wooden—to saws, spokeshaves, braces, bits galore, and many, MANY more. If you’ve been wanting or needing a certain tool, feel free to shoot me a quick message to see if I have one. Most questions are welcome. Just please understand I’m having to dig through three large storage units to find and post these tools. So the process of posting may (may not) be a little slow at the beginning. But rest assured, hundreds of “new” antique tools will be posted before too long. A relative few tools will be saleed off, but I intend to sell most items as Buy It Now! And remember: virtually ALL of my Buy It Now’s will ALWAYS have the option of OBO (or best offer). So don’t hesitate to shoot me an offer. Thanks for reading, and don’t hesitate to shoot a question my way. All my best, Russ
