A striking antique Barbotine majolica cachepot dating to the late 19th century, richly decorated with dimensional flowers and foliage. The deep cobalt blue glazed body is surrounded by applied green leaves and sculptural roses in warm shades of yellow, pink and cream.The upper rim is particularly decorative, formed with overlapping modeled leaves that create an irregular naturalistic edge. Large applied roses and foliage continue around the body, giving the piece the exuberant botanical character associated with French Barbotine and European majolica of the period.The cachepot is raised on three molded feet and retains a beautifully aged glazed surface with expected crazing consistent with antique majolica. A wonderfully sculptural piece for displaying flowers or simply as a decorative object.
