Wonderful antique Austrian cold-painted bronze figure of a squirrel holding a nut, dating to approximately the late 19th or early 20th century.
The squirrel is exceptionally detailed, with deeply modeled fur, a large sweeping tail, individually defined toes and claws, inset-looking eyes, and the original multicolor cold-painted surface. The squirrel holds a green-painted nut between its front paws.
The underside is stamped/cast 818 and also bears a separate 9. No maker\'s name or definitive maker\'s mark was found, so this piece is being offered as an Austrian/Vienna cold-painted bronze rather than attributed to a specific workshop.
Measurements: just over 3\" tall.
Weight: approximately 13.5 oz.
The figure displays beautifully and has a substantial weight for its size.
Condition is very good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear, rubbing and losses to the original cold-painted decoration, along with patination/oxidation consistent with age.
