Wonderful antique wooden firkin-style bucket with original paper labels from Atmore & Son, 110 Tasker St., Philadelphia, PA. The front label advertises their celebrated mincemeat and notes ingredients including seedless raisins, currants, oranges, lemon, citron, sugar, spices, syrup, salt, beef suet, brandy and alcohol. It also states “Contains 8.6% Proof Alcohol by Weight” and a net weight of 4 lbs. 10 oz.
The lid retains an additional Atmore & Son paper label reading, in part, “To be made from the best material and the most scrupulous care exercised in its preparation.”
Made of wood with wooden bands and a wire bail handle with wooden grip. The original labels are still surprisingly present, although they show age-related wear, tears, staining, fading and losses as pictured. The wood also has expected surface wear, discoloration, small holes, scratches and patina consistent with age.
A beautiful primitive advertising piece that would display wonderfully in a country kitchen, pantry, general store collection or early American décor.
Condition: Antique condition with significant age-related wear. Original paper labels are fragile and incomplete in areas. Please review all photos closely as they are part of the description.
