DescriptionANTIQUE ARMENIAN OTTOMAN TINNED-COPPER BOWL – HAND HAMMERED – LATE 19TH CENTURYBeautiful and unusual antique Armenian hand-hammered tinned-copper bowl, believed to date to the late 19th century, approximately 1880–1900.This is a substantial handmade vessel displaying the irregularities and surface character expected from an old hand-worked piece rather than modern manufactured metalware.The bowl has a rounded, slightly bulbous body with a raised foot/base and a wide flared rim. The upper exterior features an elaborate hand-worked decorative band with repeating ornamental/floral motifs.The interior retains substantial areas of the original tin lining, while the exterior shows extensive wear to the tinning and exposed copper beneath, creating the beautiful dark silver, copper, bronze and gold-colored patina visible throughout the piece.ConstructionThe bowl appears to have been hand raised/hammered from sheet copper, with the interior tinned for use with food.This type of tinned-copper domestic metalware is well documented in Armenian/Ottoman material culture.
