One (1)antique hand-stitched horsehide baseball manufactured in the early 1890s.This rare piece is in Very Good condition, with visible signs of surface wear, old ink markings, cracking, scuffing, light stains and discoloration from time, but well preserved for its age. Item measures 9 1/2 inches in total circumference.Featured is a very hard to find regulation size baseball from the very early days of the sport. Unclear is the exact lineage of the piece, as any maker's marks or machine stamping has faded with time. The item has never been cleaned or repaired, with old surface gouging and scratches on its hardened surface apparent throughout. The provenance on this fine piece, a family heirloom, dates back to the post-Gold Rush period of the late 19th Century, in northern California.The item is in fine shape considering its age, always kept in proper storage and lovingly preserved for more than 135 years! A true rarity.
