Beautiful antique English brown transferware platter featuring the Indus pattern by Ridgway, Sparks & Ridgway.
This approximately 9-inch oval platter features an intricate Victorian transfer-printed design in rich brown, with two birds perched among delicate flowering branches at the center. The border is beautifully decorated with additional birds, flowers, leaves, and branches.
The reverse is marked “INDUS” and bears the English diamond registration mark, which corresponds to the pattern’s registration in 1877. A lovely example of late-19th-century English transferware with the nature-inspired decoration associated with the Victorian Aesthetic Movement.
