Massive antique hand-colored engraving titled "This View of Her Majesty's Steam Frigate Cyclops, off Spithead, under Admiralty Orders," published March 2, 1857 by Ackermann & Co. of London, engraved by H. Papprill after the painting by marine artist William Adolphus Knell. Dedicated with permission to Sir William Symonds, Surveyor of the Navy.
The lower margin retains full historical detail: commanded by Capt. Horatio T. Austin, R.N.; extreme length 216'6", width 37'6", depth of hold 23', tonnage 1195; armament of four 68-pounders and two 98-pounder pivot guns with a peacetime complement of 160 men; built to the plans of Sir Wm. Symonds with 300 horsepower engines by Messrs. Seaward & Capel. An example of this print is held in the permanent collection of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
Housed in a substantial vintage wood frame with dark burr/flame grain and a gold-gilt inner slip.
