Charming mid-19th century American wooden document/valuables box with original dark exterior covering, fitted compartmented tray interior, and working period lock. Includes the original Eagle Lock Co. (Terryville, CT) key.
The lid interior features a colorful, ornate 1851 Holy Matrimony certificate for Benjamin F. Johnston and Betsy A. Webster of Syracuse, New York (married June 25, 1851 by Rev. Norman Seaver). Decorative design with architectural motifs, florals, and vignettes. Some age-related wear, tears, and toning to the certificate, as expected.
Solid antique condition with expected surface wear and patina. Perfect decorative piece, keepsake box, or for collectors of Americana, genealogy, or early New York history.
