$4850.00

The Exceptional Himalayan Art Antique 15th–16th Century Ming Dynasty Partial Gilt Lacquered Bronze with Pigment Figure of Ratnasambhava Buddha, Finely Cast and Richly Ornamented in the Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Tradition. Ratnasambhava, One of the Five Transcendent Buddhas of Vajrayana Buddhism, is Depicted Seated in Dhyanasana Upon An Elaborate Double Lotus Throne, with the Right Hand in the Gesture of Varada and the Left Hand in the Gesture of Dhyanamudra.
The Deity is Rendered with A Serene, Contemplative Expression, Elongated Eyes, Gently Arched Brows, and Finely Modeled Features. An Elaborate Five Leaf Crown Surrounds the Tightly Arranged Curls of the Hair and Prominent Ushnisha, Complemented By Large Ornamental Earrings, Jeweled Armlets, Bracelets, and Flowing Robes. The Substantial Double Lotus Pedestal is Beautifully Articulated with Two Registers of Stylized Petals, Lending the Composition A Commanding and Harmonious Presence.
The Bronze Retains Extensive Traces of Historic Gilding Lacquer, and Pigment, Naturally Worn through Centuries of Age and Devotional Handling to Reveal A Deep, Dark Patinated Bronze Surface Beneath. Surviving Gilding Remains Particularly Evident throughout the Crown, Jewelry, Robes, and Lotus Pedestal, Creating A Richly Layered Surface of Considerable Visual Character. Its Powerful Proportions, Sophisticated Buddhist Iconography, Elaborate Ornamentation, and Beautifully Aged Surface, This Impressive Sculpture Reflects the Artistic Traditions Associated with Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Bronze Sculpture of the Ming Dynasty Period. The Figure is Presented in Good Antique Condition Consistent with Age, Retaining Areas of Historic Lacquered Gilding and Pigment, with Expected Surface Wear, Patination, and Oxidation.
