The American Consumer Council is a non-profit organization established in 1987. The mission of ACC is to educate consumers on the purchase and use of safe, reliable products and services, and advocate on behalf of consumers for stronger protection in the global marketplace. ACC is headquartered in San Diego, CA and currently has over 408,000 members and a network of 46 state/regional consumer councils.
A lot of credit unions require you to be employed by specific companies or live/worship/study in a specific area to be eligible to join. Some also allow you to become a member if you are a member of one of their "sister" organizations - the ACC is one of the most popular of these sister organizations.
