A wonderful antique pharmaceutical bottle featuring the original “TINCT. ABSINTH.” label and an impressive faceted glass stopper.
The inscription is an abbreviated pharmaceutical Latin designation for Tinctura Absinthii, a traditional medicinal tincture of wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). Bottles associated with historic apothecary preparations such as this make fascinating additions to collections of medical antiques, pharmacy memorabilia and early pharmaceutical glass.
The bottle has a particularly attractive clear, heavy glass body with broad shoulders and a substantial faceted stopper. The decorative shield-shaped label with bold black lettering all enamel over glass gives it a very distinctive antique pharmacy appearance.
