And remember: Every piece of old fishing tackle has a “story” to tell!AW584 tougher version Pflueger Akron model 1893L old vintage fish reel! Jeweled! A classic! Great old-timer! EX in BoxPflueger made this reel for many years in many versions! The marbled knobs and dark red jeweled end caps and the six patent numbers and “Patented” and “Pats Pending” on back plate seem to indicate this is a1940-50’s model. (Yes, I collect Pflueger Akrons!). This one has a “small washer” around the screw of the spare pawl compartment! That’s a bit tougher version to find, believe me! Good one to show off!Displays great! Just a few very minor finish scratches- hardly noticeable, and some wear on the one cross bar— probably from the user’s thumb resting there! A few other specks scattered around and some marks from the old line being left on. Really doesn’t look as bad as I’ve described it! Look at the pictures! Bright and shiny, spins fine! EX click! VERY nice old timer to show off!
Just a note: As with any \"used\" item, if you\'re price comparing between different sellers, don\'t just look at the prices! Make certain to very carefully note the Condition also! Who was it that said \"You get what you pay for!\".It was found in an unlabelled box. The glue must have dried up and the label fell off! Box is stamped with a “40” on the bottom, indicating an inspection date of 1940. That’s consistent with the age of the reel! Makes a nice home for this reel!
The “story it has to tell\": So many old bait casting reels are found with worn or worn-out clicks! And there is no easy way to fix or replace it! WHY did they wear out so often? Answer: An instruction manual I have from 1940 clearly states that the click was meant to be used ONLY to hold the line in place when still fishing, or when transporting or storing the reel! It was NOT meant to be engaged when reeling, and especially not when casting out! So why are so many clicks found worn out when they were supposed to be used so little?…..
