A real treasure here! This vintage cast iron Cap Gun is an early 20th century collectible you won't want to miss. Made from 1910 to the 1940s, these were the sidearm of choice for kids whose dads fought two World Wars. Many people believe these were made by Smith & Wesson because of the "S" on the left side and the "W" on the right, but from 1890 to 1952, they were made by the Kenton Hardware Company (Kenton, Ohio), manufacturers of locks, durable cast-iron toys, and popular toy cap guns. It features a tip-up loading design.
Probably 100 years old (maybe more), and I doubt you've seen a nicer one. Hinge is solid, mechanism works crisply, and the cast iron surface is clean and shiny. It's in working condition, and I'm selling it "as found." I haven't tried to clean it up even one little bit. The only thing I've done is add the orange plug. Pictures accurately represent the item.

Many people call this a starter pistol and with the proper caps it has probably been used that way, but it's one of the classic toys of the early 20th century and who knows--this one might have "killed" a hundred outlaw best friends and assorted train-robbing neighborhood kids! It fires caps which I doubt are available anymore, but that doesn't diminish its appeal. It can't fire any type of actual ammunition because of the way the barrel is designed -- no .22 rimfire, not even a short.
