ANTIQUE GERMAN HOROLOGY H.A.C. MINIATURE WALL CLOCK Hamburg American Clock Company CIRCA 1900-1915 · WÜRTTEMBERG · PENDULUM & KEY INCLUDED A CHARMING SMALL-PROPORTION H.A.C. WALL CLOCK A particularly appealing antique German wall clock by the Hamburg American Clock Company, unusually compact at only approximately 30cm high and retaining its original H.A.C. maker\'s plaque, pendulum and winding key.

Dating from approximately 1900-1915, this attractive little wall clock was produced by the renowned Hamburg American Clock Company, commonly abbreviated to H.A.C., whose factory was situated in Schramberg in the historic German state of Württemberg.

The clock has a wonderfully compact form, with a circular upper section housing the large Roman numeral dial above a short glazed pendulum box. This style is sometimes described as a miniature or small-proportion drop-dial wall clock and is considerably easier to display than the much larger German wall clocks more commonly encountered.

The case appears to be dark-stained oak, with an attractive moulded circular surround to the dial and a pointed lower section containing a hinged glazed door through which the brass pendulum can be viewed.

The cream-coloured dial is fitted with bold black Roman numerals, an outer minute track and traditional steel hands. A single winding arbor is positioned above VI.

To the rear is the original metal maker\'s plaque reading “H.A.C. MAKE – MADE IN WURTTEMBERG”, providing a positive identification of the manufacturer.

H.A.C., the Hamburg American Clock Company, was one of Germany\'s important clock manufacturers around the turn of the 20th century and is particularly associated with its crossed-arrows trademark and a wide range of domestic clocks exported internationally.

AN INTERESTING H.A.C. VARIANT This example is an interesting variation of a known H.A.C. small wall-clock design. Similar examples are found with an applied paper instruction label and a circular rear movement access panel. This clock instead has a plain rear board with the original H.A.C. metal maker\'s plaque and lower retaining fittings. In good antique condition overall with a very attractive, honest appearance.

The wooden case displays general age-related surface marks, rubbing, small scratches and knocks consistent with its age. The finish has developed a pleasing depth and patina.

The dial shows age-related mellowing, discolouration and some spotting, although the Roman numerals and minute track remain clear and attractive. The brass bezel and other metal fittings have developed normal age-related patination.

The lower glazed pendulum door is intact and opens correctly. The brass pendulum and winding key are both included.

The rear retains its original H.A.C. Make / Made in Württemberg plaque. This particular version does not incorporate the circular rear movement access found on some closely related H.A.C. examples.
