ANTIQUE 19thC SPANISH COLONIAL SOUTH AMERICA NICARAGUA CARVED COCONUT SHELL CUP
Description:
A finely carved antique Spanish Colonial coconut cup originating from Nicaragua, dating to the late 19th Century.
The nut has been carved all round with three circular panels surrounded by floral flourishes, with ribbed bands below and above and gadrooning to the base. The three panels depict squirrels and birds in a tree, an exotic bird on a branch, and the Nicaraguan Coat of Arms, confirming origin. This particular style of Coat of Arms was in use between 1880-1908.
The surface has taken on an almost black deep patina with age.
