Promenade – The Original Cast Recording is the 1969 RCA Victor stereo cast album of the acclaimed experimental Off-Broadway musical, with music by Al Carmines and book and lyrics by María Irene Fornés. Produced on stage by Edgar Lansbury and Joseph Beruh and directed by Lawrence Kornfeld, Promenade became one of the distinctive works of New York’s experimental musical-theater scene of the late 1960s.
The expanded production opened at New York’s Promenade Theatre on June 4, 1969 and ran for 259 performances. The score moves through a wide range of musical styles while Fornés’ unconventional story follows two escaped prisoners, identified simply as 105 and 106, through a surreal series of encounters with characters from different levels of society.
This original RCA Victor cast recording was recorded at Webster Hall in New York in August 1969 and produced by Andy Wiswell. Performers on the recording include Ty McConnell, Gilbert Price, Sandra Schaeffer, Margot Albert, Carrie Wilson, Alice Playten, Glenn Kezer, Michael Davis, Shannon Bolin and others.
