These 6 unique and horrifying sculpts on a green Injection melted plastic Modelsprue are classic Poxwalkers. They Are a deadly and dangerous part of the Darktide/Nurgle \"horde\" - And can be used for your DEATH GUARD Army of space, Marines, or your chaos demons of NURGLE - Or any other special custom army, you can imagine or create.
What are the Poxwalkers?Poxwalkers aren’t soldiers. They’re civilians and even other Guardsmen who were infected by Nurgle’s plagues during the fall of Atoma Prime/Tertium.
How they were made: When the Admonition cult opened the warp and Nurgle’s Rot took hold in the underhive, people didn’t just die. The Plague God \"blessed\" them. The virus reanimates the dead, warps the living, and binds them all to a single rotting hive mind. They don’t feel pain, fear, or fatigue. They just shuffle forward, spreading contagion.
Where Moebians still have tactics, Poxwalkers have gravity. They are drawn to life like maggots to meat.
What they look like / feel on the tableThis is why those 6 sculpts are so good — no two are the same. Games Workshop made each one unique:One dragging his own intestinesOne with a bloated belly about to burstOne missing a jaw but still screamingOne with a rusted shovel fused to its handsOne in tattered hive-worker coverallsOne former enforcer, badge half-melted into pus
They’re covered in boils, dripping sores, and flies. The stench rule isn’t on the datasheet, but it should be. They’re disgusting, but also weirdly tragic. You can see bits of their old clothes and ID tags under the rot.
That’s what makes them \"stimulating\" to paint — every pustule, every rust stain, every maggot is a chance to go grimdark.
Typical WargearPoxwalkers don’t have lasguns. They have what they died with, plus Nurgle’s gifts.
All Poxwalkers:Rancid Claws and Teeth - They don’t shoot. They close and rip. In game terms: multiple attacks, and they inflict \"contagion\" on a 6 to wound.Corpse-like resilience - T4, 6+ save, but they have Disgustingly Resilient 5+. Things that should kill them just... don’t.The Blight - Any model they kill has a chance to come back as another Poxwalker in some narrative games.
No specialists, but the unit scales by numbers. 20-30 of them is a wall of flesh.
Power and Effectiveness in a game of 40KOn the tabletop, run them as Poxwalkers from the Death Guard / Chaos Daemons codex.
Strengths:Tar Pit: Dirt cheap per model. 10 of them can tie up a 200pt elite unit for 3 turns. You don’t kill things with Poxwalkers, you drown them.Objective Secured in a horde: 20 bodies on an objective is incredibly hard to shift. Opponent has to waste shooting on them.Synergy with Nurgle: Put a Plaguecaster or Lord of Contagion near them. Give them +1 to hit, +1 to wound, or make them advance and charge. With \"Cloud of Flies\" they’re -1 to hit.Morale Immune: They don’t run. They don’t break. They just keep coming until you wipe the unit.
Weaknesses: No armor, no guns, WS5+. A squad of Intercessors will mulch them if they get to shoot first. But that’s the point — every bolter round into Poxwalkers is a round NOT into your Plague Marines or PBC.
How they formed from the MoebiansThink of it as a pipeline:Loyal Moebian 6th → Traitor Guard who embrace Nurgle and keep fighting → Killed in the plague wars → Reanimated as Poxwalkers
So on your board you can tell a story: Traitor Guard hold the line and shoot, while the Poxwalkers are the failed brothers and civilians shambling behind them. The Guard even use them as cover.
How to use the 6 unique sculptsThat specific green sprue from the Darktide box is perfect for:Objective campers: Split them into 2 units of 3 to hold backfield pointsCharacter bodyguard: Surround a Chaos Sorcerer with them so snipers can’t target himFirst wave: Run them straight at the enemy. Make your opponent decide: \"Do I shoot the Marines, or the 60 points of zombies 8\" from my lines?\"
Paint tip: Basecoat death guard green, wash with Agrax + Athonian Camoshade, then pick out the boils with Kislev Flesh + Nurgle’s Rot technical paint. Instant gross.
