This 2005-P "Ocean in View" Jefferson 5C Nickel made in Philadelphia is a United States five-cent coin that's part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series, commemorating the bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition. OBVERSE:
Portrait:Features a new likeness of Thomas Jefferson, designed by Joe Fitzgerald an d Don Everhart. This portrait is a right-facing depiction based on a marble bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and later paintings by Gilbert Stuart and Rembrandt Peale.
Inscription:"Liberty" is inscribed in script based on Jefferson's handwriting, and "In God We Trust" and "2005" also appear.
REVERSE:
Scene:Depicts a coastal landscape representing the Pacific Ocean, with a view of the western waters and trees on the shoreline.
Inscription:The inscription "Ocean in View! O! The Joy!" is an excerpt from Captain William Clark's journal on November 7, 1805, expressing his excitement at reaching the Pacific. This design was created by Joe Fitzgerald and sculpted by Donna Weaver.
